Overview

Provides an overview of the Track and Trace module

What is Track and Trace

Use the Track and Trace module to retrieve the positions or activities of your assets. This module provides an asset's current location or activity and a historical overview of an asset’s whereabouts and related activities. By integrating with other SCALAR modules like Sensors and Activity Management, it delivers comprehensive insights into fleet and driver operations.

Why Use Track and Trace?

Purpose I: Get the Current Location

SCALAR enables users to view the current location of multiple assets. This provides real-time visibility into asset whereabouts and ensures sufficient resources are available in a region to fulfil orders for the next day.

Purpose II: View Historical Locations

SCALAR offers a historical view of an asset’s location over time. This information is useful for:

  • Mapping routes to analyse asset movement.
  • Identifying deviations or delays during a trip.
  • Understanding driver behaviour and performance through speed data.

Purpose III: Get the Current Activity

SCALAR displays the current activities of multiple assets, offering insights into ongoing tasks and their progress. This functionality helps dispatchers manage and prioritize resources effectively.

Purpose IV: View Historical Activities

SCALAR provides historical activity data for assets and drivers. This information can be used to:

  • Create timesheets with detailed activity logs.
  • Identify unexpected stops or prolonged tasks.
  • Optimize resource allocation for future operations.

Integration with other modules

Activity Definition Manager Integration

Activity definition Manager integrates seamlessly into Track and Trace, enabling users to:

  • Allow the driver to choose custom activities like loading, unloading, and refueling.
  • Use real-time activity logs to identify idle resources.
  • Generate detailed activity reports combining vehicle data.

Teams for Integrators Integration

Teams for Integrators ensures that:

  • Data access is restricted to assets and drivers assigned to specific teams.
  • Asset and activity data are securely shared with authorized stakeholders.
  • Team-based data segmentation supports compliance and operational efficiency.

📘

Note

Teams for integrators is currently only supported on the position endpoints

Use Cases

Use Case I: Overview of the Fleet on a Map

Display current asset positions on a map to:

  • Verify asset availability in specific regions.
  • Plan resource deployment for upcoming tasks.

Use Case II: View a Driven Route of an Asset on a Map

Visualize the historical route of an asset to:

  • Track its location within a specified timeframe.
  • Analyze deviations and optimize future routes.

Use Case III: Display Overview of Activities

Present current activities of assets and drivers, enabling users to:

  • Monitor resource utilization in real-time.
  • Make informed decisions on task allocation.

Use Case IV: View the Activities Report

Generate comprehensive activity reports to:

  • Review driver and asset actions over time.
  • Evaluate operational efficiency and identify areas for improvement.

Benefits of Integration

  • Improved Decision-Making: By combining location and activity data, users can make data-driven decisions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Enhanced Visibility: Real-time and historical tracking provides a complete picture of fleet performance.
  • Streamlined Data Management: Integration with Teams for Integrators ensures secure and segmented access to critical data.
  • Operational Efficiency: Insights from Track and Trace support resource optimization and proactive issue resolution.

Conclusion

The Track and Trace module, enhanced by integration with Sensors and Activity Management, provides a holistic view of fleet and driver performance. It empowers users with actionable insights for better planning, monitoring, and optimization of resources, making it a vital component of SCALAR’s suite of tools.
