Overview

What is Places

Use the Places module to create, manage, and view places. Places can be used as Points of Interest (POI) on the map. You can add additional place details such as contact information, place type, notes, and other details. Places can also be configured as a geographical area (circular or polygonal geofence) with latitude and longitude coordinates. An alarm can be configured when assets enter or leave these geographical areas at a specific time.

Why use Places

Purpose I: Manage Places

SCALAR allows you to create, manage, and view places. Use places as geofencing to create alarms in case of events that require immediate attention. Places are displayed on the map with latitude and longitude information. Various place groups and users can be given access to the places according to their requirements.

Note

The removal of a place is irreversible.

Purpose II: Manage place with geofence report

Generate reports without triggering/generating alarms. A place with a geofence doesn’t need to generate an alarm but it can be included in the report.

Purpose III: Manage Alarms

SCALAR allows you to define alarms for specific places. An alarm can be generated in case an asset is entering and/or leaving an area. Alarms allow you to notify the correct people in case of an event and make sure necessary action is taken.

Purpose IV: Manage Access

After creating a place, you can assign users and place groups to a specific place to configure who will be able to follow it.

Note

• By default, it is not accessible. It is required to assign specific users or/and place groups to a place or assign to all users.
• A place is visible to no one in the organization when all the respective place groups and users are unassigned'
• The place is assigned to no one when all the respective places groups or users are unassigned and assign to ‘All’ is false.

Use Cases

Use case I: Display a place on the map

• View the points of interest (POI) on the map in the SCALAR platform and all relevant place details.
• Places can be configured as a circular area or a polygon on the map.

Use case II: Generate report

Generate a report by adding a geofence to a place.

Use case III: Configure alarms

Easily configure an alarm to notify the correct stakeholder in case a driver/asset enters or leaves a specific area.

Use case IV: Assign place groups

• An organization can assign a place to the specific place groups.
• Once the place is enrolled and added to the SCALAR platform, they can be assigned or unassigned from the place groups.
