Overview

Provides an overview of the Assets module

What is Assets

Use the Assets module to manage and view the assets in your organization. Add your assets such as trucks, trailers, vans, cars, and other assets to the SCALAR platform. In the asset management you can link a communication unit (hardware unit) to an asset. All mandatory details must be entered correctly for an asset to have the status Active. After correctly linking the communication unit to the asset in the system, asset data will become available in other modules: Operations (Track & trace), Teams, and other modules.

Why use Assets

Purpose I: Manage Assets

SCALAR allows you to add your assets to the platform, manage, view, and track the health of the asset in the asset list. Enter all asset details such as License plate, Asset type, and Code.

Purpose II: Link Asset to Communication Unit

SCALAR enables you to link communication units to assets. A communication unit is installed on an asset to follow-up on the asset activity, location, and other details. Select the correct Unit Type from the dropdown menu and enter the correct serial number.

📘

Note

The serial number validation depends on the unit type.

Purpose III: Manage Access

After creating an asset, you can assign users or teams to a specific asset to configure who will be able to follow it.

📘

Note

By default, access is provided to all users.

Use Cases

Use case I: Display assets for tracking and tracing

  • Only assets with the status Active are displayed to dispatchers.
  • Dispatchers can view the assets’ location, status, etc.

Use case II: Edit assets

  • You can edit the status of an asset. For example, change the status of an asset to Inactive if the asset is out of service for maintenance. The asset details will be updated across all screens and modules in the SCALAR platform.
  • Assets with the status Inactive are not displayed in the Operations module (track-and-trace).

Use case III: View asset details

  • Set the correct tachograph version for the asset. The digital tachograph allows the driver to automatically log on to the communication unit using his personal tacho driver card and it also allows to remotely download the tacho data to the SCALAR platform. A compatible tachograph version is required to allow this functionality.
  • Retrieve a list of all assets with their respective asset details.
  • Retrieve all details of a particular asset.
